After more than three decades of support, Friends meet pledge of $150,000 for new library
Established in 1983, the Friends of the Interlochen Public Library are known for tireless fundraising and support. Their gifts have enriched the library in many ways including:
- Acquisition of books and magazines.
- Updated equipment.
- Unrestricted support for supplies and materials during an operating fund shortage in the early 1990’s.
- Renovation of the library’s interior.
Equally as important, the group has maintained an ongoing and contagious compassion for the library’s mission. Upheld as a model throughout the Traverse City area library district, the friends of IPL have been instrumental in developing the library as a vital community asset.
Currently, more than 175 community members volunteer as Friends of the Interlochen Public Library. The group contributes to the Library’s operating with profits from an annual book sale, plant sale, and other fundraising activities.
